TMI - Malaysia moves for ‘responsible’ Internet use at London talks

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30 — Malaysia will propose a framework towards a more “responsible” use of the Internet at the London Conference on Cyberspace next week, Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said today.

The Malaysian Information, Communications and Culture Minister, who will represent Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, said the proposal would not amount to censorship or putting a filter on online content.

“Instead, it will brighten the blurred lines between upholding human rights and protecting public interest in line with international laws,” Bernama quotes Rais (picture) as saying.

The two-day conference aims to develop a better collective understanding of how to protect and preserve the opportunities that cyberspace offers.
