TSD - DPM: Malaysia to use Singapore's vocational education as model

SINGAPORE (Oct 26, 2011): The Singapore's vocational education system will be used as a model for the basic vocational subject to be introduced from Form One to Form Three next year, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said a vocational certificate would be issued to students, and those interested to pursue vocational training up to diploma level would be given the opportunity.

"The Singapore's model is being adopted in the transformation of our vocational training," he told reporters after visiting the Institute of Technical Education and the Tuas South Incineration Plant here Tuesday.

Muhyiddin, who is on a two-day visit here, said in Singapore, nearly 20 per cent of students took up vocational training, for which 70 per cent of the module is practical while 30 per cent is theoretical or soft skill.
