TMI - Commit to 1 Malaysia, Guan Eng tells Najib

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 6 — Lim Guan Eng told Datuk Seri Najib Razak today to commit to the 1 Malaysia concept, saying that the prime minister’s recent actions appeared to be at odds with his brainchild slogan’s message of equality and respect among races.

In a strongly-worded statement today, Lim claimed that Najib had “shocked” the country yesterday by using the race card during his speech to the Pertubuhan Kebajikan dan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia’s (Pekida).

The PM was reported to have said non-Malays should not “cuit” (antagonise) the feelings of Malays and not change “what has already been decided upon and discussed.”

“Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak should prove with facts his hostile warning to innocent non-Malays not to antagonise the Malays, failing which he might as well issue the death certificate for 1 Malaysia,” Lim (picture) said.

The Penang chief minister said Najib should try and salvage his 1 Malaysia concept by making a few important commitments — to respect the basic human rights of different races and to strive towards a high-income and knowledge-base economy.

The Bagan MP accused Umno of trying to “split and divide” Malaysians with enmity and hatred, and blamed the party for stirring up controversies which could pit Malays against other races.
