TMI - Kelantan prince sues cops for RM100m

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 9 — Kelantan prince Tengku Muhammad Fakhry Petra filed today a RM100 million suit against the police for wrongfully confining him two years ago.

He named Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar; Kelantan police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi; ASP Norazman Ismail, at that time the chief private bodyguard to the Kelantan Sultan; and the Royal Malaysian Police as defendants in the suit where he demanded, among other things, RM100 million in general damages and another RM50 million for aggravated damages.

In his court filing, Tengku Muhammad Fakhry (picture), the youngest son of Tuanku Ismail Petra, said he was detained by the police about 100m from the Istana Mahkota in Kubang Kerian on August 30, 2009 between 4pm and 6pm.

The prince added that there were between 20 and 30 members of the Special Action Squad who prevented from carrying out his father’s order to deliver a Bentley Brooklands to Singapore.

He added that Tuanku Ismail was at that time undergoing medical treatment in the island republic.

Tengku Muhammad Fakhry said he was accompanied by his lawyer Datuk Haaziq Pillay and will refer to a video recording on the trial date to back him claim.
